Speaking of Photography
This evening of discussion is held in the APG Gallery at 7:30 pm every third (3rd) Wednesday of the month.
The series includes conversations with accomplished photographers and respected photography experts, topical gallery discussions, films, presentations and workshops.

February 16, 2011: Film: Henri Cartier-Bresson
In recognition of the opening of the Henry Cartier-Bresson exhibit, "The Modern Century", at Atlanta's High Museum this month, APG's Speaking of Photography meeting will feature a special video presentation of "Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Impassioned Eye". Please join us Feb, 16th 7:30 pm.
March 16, 2011: Danielle Avram - "Building a Portfolio"
Danielle will discuss what curators look for when reviewing a portfolio, and how you can best prepare your work to show to others. Danielle Avram is an independent curator based in Atlanta, GA. She has a BA in Art and Performance from the University of Texas at Dallas, and an MFA in Visual Art from Tufts University in conjunction with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
April 20, 2011: "A Conversation between Chip Simone and Kael Alford"
Kael Alford is a freelance photojournalist, videographer and writer based in Dallas, Texas. She began her career as a photojournalist based in the Balkans from 1996-2001 for American and European newspapers and magazines.
May 18, 2011: Meg Dreyer - "The Art of Omission: The Role of the Unspoken in Engaging the Viewer"
Meg Dreyer has an independent design and fine art photography practice in Atlanta and teaches design and art history at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. You can view her work at artifactsartifictions.com
June 15, 2011: Beth Lilly - "The Oracle @ Wifi"
Join Beth Lilly on June 15th for a discussion of her Oracle project, as well as her successful $12,000 fundraising campaign through Kickstarter.com, resulting in her soon-to-be published book titled, "The Oracle @ Wifi." July 20, 2011: "A Conversation between Chip Simone and Louis Corrigan"
Louis Corrigan is among the most prominent supporters of the visual arts in Atlanta, and was the most recent winner of the Nexus Award, presented by the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. In the last few years he has founded two arts-only philanthropic organizations - Flux Projects & Possible Futures. Learn more about these wonderful programs available to artists at the next APG meeting.

September 21, 2011: H. Gay Allen - "Take it and/or Make It? Altered Photography Redux"
Join us for Speaking of Photography September 21, with guest speaker H. Gay Allen. Gay's presentation, entitled "Take it and/or Make It? Altered Photography Redux," will address the historical, sociological and philosophical considerations regarding digital photography. The illustrated program will be entertaining, as well as thought provoking and educational.

November 16, 2011: Documentary Film - "Annie Leibovitz: Life Through A Lens"
This documentary takes an in-depth look at the influential career of iconic photographer Annie Leibovitz, from her earliest artistic efforts to her storied tenure at Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair magazines and beyond. Intimately filmed by Annie's sister Barbara Leibovitz, the program features interviews with the artist as she works at home, along with telling insights from many of the celebrities she has photographed, such as Mick Jagger.
December 21, 2011: Documentary Film - "National Geographic: The Photographers"
Often letting the works speak for themselves, this compelling documentary looks into the lives of veteran National Geographic photographers and the grueling work that goes into their award-winning images. The photographers provide detailed accounts of their preparation, the dangers they've encountered and the physical trials they've endured.
